Real Care Babies

If you heard loud cries recently at the Prairie Lakes AEA Storm Lake office. you were probably participating in the Real Care training session. Real Care Babies are available for check-out from the online catalog. Some of the participants from the training may wonder how to book these items for use at their school. Search the catalog by using the keywords Real Care Babies. Babies can be checked out in sets of 2, 3 or 6. To check out the Special Care Babies (1 fetal alcohol syndrome baby and 1 drug-affected baby) search by using the term, Baby Think it Over: Special Care Babies. Finally, a shaken baby simulator can also be checked out from the catalog. Use the keyword, Shaken Baby Simulator. This is just one example of the many special items that can be checked out from the catalog.

Classroom Connect

Classroom Connect, a journal that provides suggestions for integrating technology and the Internet into the classroom curriculum, is available to download from our Media Catalog. Do a search for Classroom Connect or set the format dropdown menu to Electronic Journal (EJ) and click on the green submit button. You will need to log in to the Media Catalog with your username and password to access the journal. To view the journal, click on the. Clicking on any of the web addresses (URLs) in Classroom Connect should take you directly to the designated web site. Sharing the PDF document with teachers and students outside of Northwest AEA or Prairie Lakes is not permitted. You can also watch a QuickTime movie to see how to download an issue of Classroom Connect. If you have questions about accessing Classroom Connect please let us know. Do you like accessing the journal electronically or would you prefer to have multiple hard copies of the journal available for checkout?

Accessing DE Streaming Titles

In an effort to make it easy for our customers to find all available resources, it is now possible to search for Discovery Education (DE) streaming content from the Media catalog.
DE streaming titles are included in your results whenever you do a search. To see a complete listing of DE streaming titles in the Medianet catalog, set the format dropdown menu to DE Streaming (DU) and click on the green submit button. In each catalog record you will see the DE streaming logo. Click on the logo to access the selected DE streaming title. If you currently have an account with DE streaming and have logged in to Medianet, you should be taken directly to the DE streaming page and the digital video title you selected. If you have an account with DE streaming and are taken to the DE streaming profile page, you will not need to create a new account. At the top of the form you can click here and enter your username and password. After this, you should be taken directly to the DE streaming page as well. If you do not have a DE streaming username and password, you will be directed to the DE streaming profile page where you will be asked to complete a form to create an account. In the future, whenever you are logged in to the Media catalog, you will be able to link to the DE streaming videos directly without having to log in again. Media Catalog Update

Twice a year, our Media Catalog software is updated. One of the enhancements we've added recently is an availability button. Previously it was necessary to log in to the Media catalog to find out if an item was checked out or to find out when it would be available. Now it's easy to see if an item is available while searching for titles. Simply click on the availability button to see if an item is being used by another teacher or if you can check the item out now.
